07 Softail Standard Custom from Exile Cycles for sale.

CH2

This isn’t really news, since the bike has been for sale for ages, bit since Russel Mitchell reduced the price for this scoot down to $25K it seems time to talk about it.

ExileBike08. 0052

Russel created this bike to showcase Exile Chopper”s lineup of parts to make  a standard Softail look like a custom build from a pro shop.  Featuring Exile’s trademark minimalist approach to building, this scoot features a laundry list of  custom features to dramtically change the look of the otherwise plain Jane Softail Standard, like Russell’s super-clean handlebar setup complete with a twist-clutch and hidden controls.

ExileBike08. 0041

You’d pay a lot more for the bike and the parts separately, not counting the time and effort to bolt them on yourself. Consider this your last chance to own a genuine Exile Cycle dream bike without forking over $30K plus. Don’t this this one pass you by. Get the full specs and more shots of the sled at Exile Cycles.

CFL 3 Chopper Frame from Jesse James & West Coast Choppers

hwcc-9918
Jesse James and crew are back in business with a new, albeit limited line of parts and accessories. Made entirely out of 316 Stainless Steel, with .200″ wall in the Back Bone & Single Down Tube.

hwcc-9918-7

By the way, those much sought after hand-crafted key chain fobs are still available for purchase there.

The Cell Buckle: Handlebar Cell Phone Mount

01

This is one of those brilliant products that makes you wonder why someone hasn’t produced one sooner.  It’s a simple, sturdy mount for your smartphone that places it’s screen in just the perfect spot for visibility. Finally, I can use the GPS on my phone while I’m riding. Can’t wait for mine to get here. Check this little gem out at The Cell Buckle site.

6_Copertina 15

capacete_moto_rv_msx1_2

New from Reevu, the MSX1 motorcycle helmet. Fully  vented, DOT certified and track tested, this little gem may just turn the helmet industry upside down.

Vision Series Headlights from Performance Machine

apex-lg

Performance Machine been dramatically expanding their already substantial offerings over the last few years. We’ve seen them introduce an entire collection of air cleaners, and the Contrast Cut and Scallop series of tin covers, pegs and grips, all of which were right in the wheelhouse of what they’ve been doing for the last forty plus years. So the new Vision Series of headlights, made to the same exacting specifications as the rest of their parts, is an exciting line of accessories for PM to introduce. Check out the stats at Performance Machine and pick up yours from your local PM dealer.

Café Tail Section for 86-03 Sportster Models from Burly

e02

I’m a huge fan of Sportsters, especially ones stripped down to bare essentials ala Speed Merchant and Storz. We’re seeing this trend all around, even Chopper Dave just tweeted his need for an XR Style Sporty fender. Since Café Racers are becoming a burgeoning fad in the Sportster community, Burly’s new Café Tail Sections should be a huge hit.

e03

No more fender, ugly stock turn signals and license plate frames to clutter things up. Just a clean, minimalist look to completely change up the appearance of any 1986-03 Sporty.

e04

Burly is currently offering these sections in a partially covered model with paint-able black gel coat and a fully covered option. Want more? Both options include super-comfortable gel inserts in the seats. Get a jaw dropping custom look without all the cutting and fabricating. Thank you, Burly.

Dark As Night Helmet from Helmet Dawg

d307358778321aa8ca51c8bd0fb07df1

I kind of hate myself for posting this, but given the fact that my post on the Predator Helmet remains one of my most popular, I had to show you Batman inspired motorcycle helmet from Helmet Dawg.

That’s rights kiddies, someone’s finally producing  a Batman helmet. It’s based off a GMax helmet platform, so its DOT certified, and comes with all the bells and whistles you can expect from GMax, like interchangeable clear/tinted shields and loads of ventilation.

Ouija Wallet from Repop Mfg.

Untitled-2.jpgx oija1

I honestly don’t know why I haven’t posted products from Repop Mfg on this blog before, as I’m a huge fan of Jamie Repop’s work. The man is an incredibly talented leather smith and he casts some really impressive rings, key chains and other jewelry. Best of all, it’s all made in America. Check out the Ooija Wallet and all the other nifty swag at the Repop Mfg. site.

Wide Tripper™ Solo with Diamond Stitch Pattern from Mustang Seats

Mustang has spruced up it’s famously comfortable Wide Tripper Solo Seat by offering them with a cool diamond stitch pattern, even the backrest models.  Mustang has had a good thing going with its Wide Tripper series and I’m pleasantly surprised they’re expanding the line up. Be sure to check out their new heated seat offering when you check the specs on the one. Available for Touring, Sportster, Dyna and Softail models from Mustang Seats.

Slot Track Inverted Air Cleaner from Arlen Ness

AN-18-923_300

2013 seems to be the year of the air cleaner. I can’t think of major manufacturer that hasn’t come up with a new one and minimalism appears to be the fad of the moment. As evidence, Arlen Ness’ Slot Track Inverted Air Cleaner. No stats yet to determine its performance against the reigning champs on the market, but you check the product specs at Arlen’s website.

40 Spoke Pulley from HDW

Spoked pulley Black and Red

Word about “spoked” pulleys have been running wild for the last few years. Supposedly the use of spokes over forged aluminum compensates for higher toque at the rear wheel. In other words  a spoked pulley won’t tear itself apart as quickly as their billet cousins. Considering I’m on my third pulley in two years, I’m definitely interested. Check out HDW for the specs and applications. If you’re into a custom brake setup, be sure to take a peek at their  Perimeter Brake Systems. More at the HDW site.

Notes From the Road: It appears I’m lodging in the Honey Moon Suite…

DSC02398

This motel room has a blacklight  over the bed.  I didn’t even notice the paint until the light the came on.

I can say with absolutely certainly the sheets were clean. Sometimes the destination is stranger than the ride. Taken from a motel in Houston’s 3rd Ward.

Triumph Points Covers from Factory Metal Works

atpc-2T

Yeah, I know… this isn’t a Harley part. I don’t care. Choppers are cool, I don’t care what kind of mill you’re running in the frame. If you made it, ride it with pride. As it happens, I’ve got a soft spot for CB750’s and old Triumphs. In fact, I’ve seen more than a few so well assembled  I’d be ashamed to park one of my bikes next to them.

ctpc-2T

And that’s how these nifty little transparent/translucent points covers grabbed my attention. Fresh from the Factory Metal Works crew, who specializes in vintage Triumphs, you can snag one of these and put a little twist on your old Bonny. Stand out from the crowd and save some cash over the OEM part. Sneak a peek at Factory Metal Works.

Escape From New York Jacket from Magnoli Clothiers

snake

Magnoli Clothiers is an exceptional bespoke and “off the rack” custom tailor out pf Greenland. While Magnoli’s is one of the finest custom clothing manufacturers you’ll ever run across, they specialize in high quality reproductions of famous movie costumes.

snake2

Case in point: this absolute masterpiece replica of the jacket Kut Russel wore to play Snake Plissken in Escape from New York. You’re just an eye-patch, a Farrah Fawcett blow out and some practice saying “…Call me Snake” away from being an action hero.

snake3

The Escape Jacket is painstaking rendered in your your your choice of leather [this model is shown in distressed cowhide, faithful to the original] with fully articulated shoulders and full length sleeves for actual use on a motorcycle.

snake4

Every detail has been reproduced exactly, down to the button cuffs and the deleted belt option, which really only served to scratch your tank’s paint job anyway. An absolutely stunning piece of iconic craftsmanship you can call your own. See for yourself at Magnoli Clothiers.

4 Way Offset Driver from Aerostich

4way

This smart little bit driver is tough as nails and fits all common 1/4″ hex bits,  straight-on at one end or at 90° at the other. I like that the tool sockets are magnetized to keep the bits in place and that the handle is comfortably textured for a solid grip with the greasiest fingers. Areostich even throws in 2.5, 3, 4, and 5mm hex drivers, as well as Phillips #1, 2, and 3, 4.5, 5, and 7mm flat driver bits. I can honestly say this driver comes out of my toll more more than any other and goes “missing” more often than any tool I own. If that’s not an endorsement, I don’t know what is. Available exclusively from the greatest rider catalog on planet earth: Aerostich

OilBud “hidden” Oil Cooler for Touring and Softail Models

Oil Bud Cooler (2)

Whoever engineered this ingenious device gets a gold star in my book. Before this, if we wanted an oil cooler on an air-cooled V-Twin, we had to bolt the oil cooler right onto to one of the forward facing legs on the frame, hanging out there for the world to see. We may as well have been riding a water cooled bike. Even the so-called “slimline” versions weren’t quite slimline enough to be considered unobtrusive. But what could we do? If you ride through or live in the southwestern United States during the summer, 100+ degree days are as reliable as death and taxes.

0907_hrbp_16_z+oil_bud_

Enter Harley Oil Coolers and their revolutionary Oil Bud oil cooling system that tucks cleanly under the motor almost entirely out of sight. Now this configuration works great for aesthetics, but if you actually ride your bike, you’re likely wondering how long that oil cooler will last under continual bombardment from road debris? Well, the good folks over at Harley Oil Coolers have made a few fairly impressive video that should put you mind at ease. Yes, that is a shotgun in the first one.

Grabs your attention, doesn’t it? Currently available for Touring and Softail models. Head over over to  Harley Oil Coolers for all the details.

Sendra Motorboots: “World’s Finest Motorcycle Boots”

sendra

Having grown up the son and brother of cobblers, I’m exceptionally familiar with motorcycle boots. I know which brands hold up under serious use and which peel apart under pressure. In my experience far more fell into the latter than the former. Groups like the West Coast Shoe Company (Wesco), Chippewa, Carolina have consistently crafted the highest quality motorcycle boots money can buy. Wesco’s custom boot program is so extensive, it deserves its own post. Meanwhile, once venerable names like Frye and Redwing began to experiment with overseas manufacturing with a decided slant towards style over durability that shoved them into the ranks of the “fashion boot”. Fashion boots look great and are often very affordable due to the use of a hot-glued sole in lieu of the traditional “Goodyear” configuration characterized by a hand  sewn welt and nailed or screwed sole.

When I first heard about Sendra in the 90’s I’d only associated them with high end, hand made cowboy boots from Spain. It wasn’t until this now infamous pic of David Beckham pulling on a pair of Sendra Motoboots in his closet appeared in GQ that I realized they made an engineer boot. And what about that moniker stitched into the side: World’s Finest”? Sendra had succeeded in garnering my attention. Buying a pair was a whole other story.Turns out these “World’s Finest” motorcycle boots aren’t imported into North America. It took over a year before I finally found a pair on Ebay.

sendra2

That was six years ago. I’ve since ridden those boots from one end of the county to the other, through a 20 degree snowstorm with 30 inch drifts in Albuquerque to to an asphalt melting 113 degrees in Dallas. For a few years, I wore them daily: working, playing,  hiking, climbing and generally doing my best to destroy them. The more I beat them, the better they look. Sendra had had the foresight to sew in an impact resistant soft crepe mid sole, so the boots genuinely feel as comfortable as trainers. Even more remarkable, they’re the first steel toed boots I’ve ever worn where the rigid toe goes entirely unnoticed. In short, Sendra’s Motorboots are the hands down the finest pair of riding boots I have ever owned or worked on. I used to worry where I’d find another pair when they eventually wore out. They way these boots are holding up, I think my kids will be fighting over them. If you can find them, BUY THEM.

Rolling Frames & Springers from Sugar Bear Choppers

Sugar Bear & Son

Sugar Bear & Son

“If it ain’t long it’s wrong” -Sugar Bear

I won’t waste time telling you why Sugar bear is arguably the most iconic, innovative and legendary builder of custom motorcycles alive today. With nearly half a century of work behind him, his legacy speaks volumes. Even the greatest Swedish long bike builders awe at the Californian native’s ability to create unfathomably long choppers that handle as tightly as a stock Harley.

It’s something about that immediately recognizable offset axle and scythe shaped struts. Sugar Bear’s choppers truly embody the idea of art in motion. Yet somehow, in the blur of new builders that seem to multiply exponentially every year, many forget that Sugar Bear and his son are still cranking out their signature springers and rollers from the same little tucked away shop in Gardena, CA. There are way too few of this master builder’s works on the road. Let’s hope some of our readers change that. Visit Sugar Bear Choppers today.

Thundervolt 10.4MM Spark Plug Wires from Sumax

TVsumax

There was a time not very long ago where it wasn’t uncommon for a spark plug wire manufacturer to advertise horsepower gains from their product. A spark plug wire can only aid in increasing the size of the spark the plug emits and decreasing the amount of Resistance the electrical current faces on its way to the plug. Following that logic, the majority of spark plug wire manufacturers have stopped making horse power claims in their ads. Not Sumax’s massive 10.4mm Spark Plug Wires, whose dyno tests tout a reliable 2.1 increase in overall horsepower in Twin Cam motors. Take some extra time to properly gap your plugs and you can bet that number will inch a bit higher. Bigger,  hotter sparks and a smoother, faster start -what more could you want? Available now, exclusively from Sumax.

Gold Valve Cartridge Emulators by Race Tech

golddamp
I’ve said it before, a factory Harley Davidson is not engineered to handle like a Ducati. Fortunately HD’s aftermarket universe is filled with products that substantially increase all around performance.  One of the biggest complaints from HD riders stems from the front suspension. It’s either too mushy or too stiff and finding the balance in between often takes hours of trial and error.

goldemulatordiagram

Race Tech has offered its Gold Valve Cartridge Emulators for a number of years now and with the introduction of Red Line Oil’s new variety of suspension fluids, we finally have the means to easily tune the front suspension to suit your individual riding style. Race Tech Gold Emulator Cartridges are built with a tune able valve that, when dropped into your fork tubes sits directly on top of your stock dampeners, making them perform like well tuned cartridge forks. Drop in a set and go hit the Tail of the Dragon like a sport bike. See the entire collection of HD suspension accessories at Race Tech.

Lucas Octane Booster

8B2885D3F204B7BB9932618CCD05A9CA

Octane boosters have become the automotive equivalent of snake oil over the years. When it comes down to the numbers, most of the stuff sitting on your auto part’s store shelf are sorely deficient. So a when Lucas released its own Octane Booster, I was genuinely surprised. Lucas Oil is not known for putting their names on bunk products. That was eight years ago and I can tell you: Lucas Octane Booster is the single most reliable, least expensive performance modification you make to your motorcycle. Safe for turbos, oxygen sensors and catalytic converters, Lucas Octane Boost even increases your MPG. Glorious. Look for  it at your local auto parts store or bypass the middle man: Lucas Oil Products, Inc.

Spray Cleaner & Polish from Original Biker Spirits

original-bike-spirits

If you’ve been living under a rock for the last decade and aren’t familiar with the Original Biker Spirits, now’s the time to learn a thing. This aerosol spray might just be the most popular cleaner, de-greaser, polisher and all around must-have detail-er on the planet. No water necessary, removes road grime, tar and bugs for all chrome and painted surfaces.

obs_clean_polish_6

Bike Spirits work hard for it. We’re talking about a product so gentle it’ll make tank look new, amply strong enough to cut through brake dust and does a great job of keeping rust off my spokes. No more waxing on and off while doing your best karate Kid impersonation. Just spray and wipe. Simple. Easy. Just as life should be. Grab a can and see for yourself at Biker Spirits.
